Certifications

Given the nature of what we do, quality, safety and sustainability are paramount at H.Essers. Our various certifications attest to our ongoing commitment to provide best-in-class solutions to our clients, to create a safe working environment and to reduce our ecological impact.

  • ISO 9001:2015

    ISO 9001: 2015 is an international standard for quality management. With this certificate we demonstrate our ability to meet the requirements of customers, applicable laws and regulations and the requirements of the organization itself. H.Essers holds a certificate for the transport and logistics branch, including internal suppliers.

    SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment system)

    System for assessing the quality, safety, security and environmental performance of a company. This is done using a standard questionnaire. H.Essers holds an SQAS certificate for the modules transport, packaged warehouse and tank cleaning.

    ISO 13485

    H.Essers is not itself in possession of an ISO 13485 certificate for medical devices. However, there is sufficient expertise in-house to bring an implementation to a successful conclusion. This expertise is mainly because H.Essers is registered as a qualified external supplier for some customers.

    Healthcare

    H.Essers guarantees that services for its customers comply with all applicable Good Manufacturing Practice and Good Distribution Practice regulations and guidelines.

  • FCA (Feed Chain Alliance)

    Certified self-checking system that helps to ensure food safety in the animal feed chain. H.Essers bulk transports are FCA certified.

    BRCGS (Brand Reputation through Compliance Global Standards)

    An originally British Standard for food safety, which has since been rolled out worldwide. With this certificate we ensure that our activities contribute to delivering a safe product to the consumer. This certificate also gives retailers guarantees of food safety.

    IFS Food (International Food Standaard)

    The IFS Food standard is comparable to the BRCGS. Like BRCGS, the standard is intended for the suppliers of private label products to the retailer and also has food safety and hygiene in the food processing sector as its main objective. The IFS certification system is managed by the German, French and Italian retailers. Many retailers, not only in these countries but also international retailers require IFS certification from their suppliers.

    ACS 17:

    Autocontrol guide for road transport and food chain storage.

    ACS 22:

    Autocontrol guide for the cookie, chocolate, praline and confectionery industry. Approved operator for the receipt, storage and delivery of pre-packaged organic goods.

    UKASTA

    Trade association for agricultural organizations whose work includes drafting a code of conduct for road transporters to improve cleanliness and safety in the transport of food grains.

    Animal Health & Veterinary Laboratories Agency

    Registered by the Animal Health & Veterinary Laboratories Agency for the carriage of Animal By-Products and derived products.

    Findsmiley Denmark 

    The smileys scheme shows how well stores, restaurants and other businesses that sell food to consumers comply with legal requirements for handling food. The smiley is awarded on the basis of inspection reports prepared by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration during inspection visits.

  • Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAGG)

    Licensed with the FAGG for the storage of medicines for human and veterinary use.

    Eudra GMDP

    The concept of a European Inspections database is included in the specified legislation to provide EEA National Competent Authorities and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) with an overview of the status of healthcare products manufacturers. The legislation provides for an electronic tool containing complete information on all healthcare products manufacturers. This includes information on Manufacturing and Importation Authorisations (MIA) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Certificates for authorised sites in the EEA and information on GMP certificates for manufacturers in third countries.

  • AEO (Authorised Economic Operator)

    The purpose of AEO certification is the security of goods throughout the transport chain. It is a certificate that is issued by customs to companies that operate internationally. An AEO certificate offers companies advantages in international trade, for example, they are less strictly controlled in cross-border trade, which reduces the delay at borders.

    TAPA (Transported Asset Protection Association)

    Certification of security of transport, storage and distribution.

    Known Consignor / Regulated Agent

    The consignor invests in securing the Supply Chain, where they will take a number of precautions that increase security. After this, the goods can be exempted from air cargo security screening. (No potential delays and no additional screening costs).

  • ISO-14001 certificate

    ISO 14001 is an internationally recognized standard in the field of environmental management.  Using an environmental management system according to the ISO 14001 standard, the environmental risks of business operations can be controlled and, if possible, reduced.

    BREEAM-certificate

    H.Essers is the owner of Belgium’s first BREEAM certified logistics building. The BREEAM certification system takes into account some sixty requirements within ten categories: management, health & well-being, energy, transport, water, materials, waste, land use & ecology, pollution and innovation.

    Corporate environmental policy

    As a leading logistics service provider, we want to take our responsibility in sustainable entrepreneurship. We are aware of the potential impact of our processes and services on the environment. That is why we strive to minimize our impact on the environment. We want to achieve that goal with our corporate environmental policy as a guideline. Central to this are five key words, which are in line with the policy objectives of our sustainable strategy, our corporate values and the United Nations’ SDGs.

    Operation Clean Sweep

    Program aimed at improving awareness, promoting best practices for the implementation of necessary pellet loss prevention measures for better environmental practices.

  • ISO 27001

    ISO 27001 is an international standard for information security magement. With this certificate we demonstrate our ability to meet the requirements of customers, applicable laws and regulations and the requirements of the organization itself. H.Essers holds a certificate for the digital services transport and logistics branch.

    H.Essers recognizes that with information systems, the unexpected can and does occur – from simple situations to major outages. The mission of H.Essers’ Business Continuity Program is to establish and support an ongoing program to evaluate, and mitigate, the potential impact of disruptive events. This page provides our customers with information about our security practices and the way we manage information, data and cargo according to industry best practices.

    Security Management
    It is vital that H.Essers protects its assets, the cargo and the customer information that it manages. As such, H.Essers follows ISO 27001/27002 guidelines for organisational information security standards and management practices. H.Essers also complies with legal requirements and relevant industry standards in any aspect of its business. Regular third-party audits ensure we continue to meet these requirements.

    Policies and procedures
    H.Essers’ security policies and procedures define how the different areas of information security are managed within the company and its subsidiaries. This security policy is subject to periodical reviews and updates, if necessary.

    Information Security Steerco
    An appointed Information Security Steerco manages information security, auditing and compliance and also defines the security controls for the protection of H.Essers infrastructure. This Information Security Steerco also manages information security notifications from external parties, customers, vendors, and suppliers, and distributes security alerts and advisory information to the organization on a regular basis after having assessed risk and impact as appropriate. It is the first point of contact for questions regarding information security by employees or external parties.

    H.Essers’ Code of Conduct 
    H.Essers Code of Conduct is a framework based on the company’s values, setting expectations and guiding company behaviour. All employees are trained on the Code of Conduct and agree to comply with H.Essers’ expectations for ethical business conduct. The Code of Conduct highlights requirements regarding acceptable use of H.Essers’ information systems. This includes adhering to all policies mentioned on this page and applying proper protection to sensitive or confidential material. In addition, employees agree to protect company equipment and systems from content and situations which may be inappropriate or pose a risk to the company.

    Staff Security
    All H.Essers employees are required to operate in line with company policies, guidelines and procedures, including those covering confidentiality, integrity, availability, business ethics, appropriate usage, and applicable regulatory standards. All employees have signed these documents.

    Access
    Information systems can only be accessed through role-based access controls. All users are provided with unique account IDs for accessing company assets. The password policy defines the criteria that passwords for information systems, applications and databases need to meet. Multi-Factor Authentication  is required for external access to systems.

    Asset security
    H.Essers has policies, procedures, and the infrastructure in place to protect the physical security of its data centers, offices, vehicles, and assets. These security controls include surveillance cameras, electronic access control systems, automatic locks, theft alarms, fire alarms and fire suppression systems.

    Operations security
    H.Essers has documented operating procedures and responsibilities for all systems, applications, and services in the environment. Change management process is implemented to document, approve, and track all changes to the environment to ensure that changes work as expected and according to established policies, procedures, and standards, and to ensure security and safety of operational systems.

    Network Security
    H.Essers has state-of-the-art firewalls to protect its network infrastructure and servers. These systems detect and prevent various cyber threats and attacks. Firewalls equally restrict access to systems and networks from external networks and between systems and networks internally. Access to external systems is only allowed for business-related purposes.

    Supplier Relationships
    When selecting suppliers or partners for ICT systems and digital on-board systems, H.Essers selects parties that adhere to its standards regarding security, confidentiality, ethics, integrity and transparency.

    In-house Software
    H.Essers develops its own custom software following a proven methodology designed to ensure that software is secure and robust. During development as well as its lifecycle, software is subject to product security assessments and tests.

    Incidents
    In case of an incident, H.Essers follows its incident response plan. This plan contains procedures that describe how incidents should be managed and by whom, and how relevant parties, including authorities, should be notified.

    Disaster Recovery
    H.Essers has implemented disaster recovery procedures for all critical systems to minimize interruptions in our services due to hardware or software failures, natural disasters or other catastrophes.

  • VCA

    VCA stands for VGM Checklist Contractors (VGM = Safety, Health and Environment), but is in fact more than a checklist. VCA is a complete program with which service companies are structurally and objectively tested and certified for their VGM management system. We have a VCA certification for some of our sites.

    Safety advisor

    To ensure and enhance the safety for transport of dangerous goods, the European Council issued Directive 96/35/EC, obligating transport companies to install a safety adviser.

    Responsible care

    This program is the world-wide chemical industry’s voluntary commitment to continued improvement of all aspects for Health, Safety and Environment performance and to openness in communication about its activities and achievements.

    Hazardous Cargo safety marks

    Dangerous goods are substances and articles that are potentially hazardous to people and property. Transport of these goods are strictly regulated by the ADR regulation (European agreement on international carriage of hazardous goods by road) and the IMDG Code (for transports by ship).

    Kosher

    For the transport of kosher goods, we only uses edible tankcontainers that have been thoroughly cleaned and sterilised. Making sure that continuous collections of kosher goods are loaded into a special part of the fleet, again assuring the kosher nature of those tankcontainers.

    Valve labelling

    We strive towards absolute safety during transport. As a well-experienced tank container operator, we strongly recommend our customers to consider the merits of always sealing the discharge valves and loading hatches of tank containers with a tag detailing the chemical name and ADR classification of the loaded product.

    Legislation to better protect people and their environment from the hazards and consequences of major accidents involving dangerous substances. It has a dual objective of avoiding major accidents involving dangerous substances (prevention) and to limit the consequences of such accidents for people and the environment (emergency planning).
